MG Motor India eyes increasing production of SUV Hector by up to 30%

A senior company official said that after the BS-VI emission standard came into effect on April 1, the Indian automobile company plans to increase its latest SUV car,  Hector output by about 30%.

The company released the ZS EV last week and considering the strong response to its pure electric SUV, the company will also review plans for electric vehicles (EVs) under Rs 1 crore.

MG Motor India President and MD Rajeev Chaba told PTI: "In the case of Hector, we are planning to further increase the speed and hope to achieve it within two or three months."

The company's first model in India, Hector, received a good response and retailed 3,021 units in December 2019. Since its launch in July 2019, the automaker has recorded total Hector sales of 15,930 vehicles.

At present, we are focusing on the smooth transition from BS-IV to BS-VI from dealer inventory. Based on the next two months, we will make a decision, but we think we can make about 3,500 to 4,000 (units) of Hector per month. "

Chaba said that due to stock adjustments, the first quarter will suffer some blows. He added, "But from April to May, it can be increased to 3500 to 4000 per month."

Currently, the company is producing approximately 3,000 Hectors at its Halol plant.

MG Motor India plans to receive more than 2,800 orders for latest electric cars in India ZS EV, far exceeding its expectations, and is considering increasing its production from the current 200 units per month to 300 or 400 units per month after three or four months.

When asked about the company ’s strong response to the ZS EV, the company ’s electric car plan with prices below Rs 1 million, Chaba said, “It is also an interesting development now.”

He said: "I think we will carefully review the shape, size, range and price required for the next generation of electric vehicles," he added. "There will be a concept at the upcoming Auto Expo, but we will take into account Respond. "
