MG Motor in Talks with Medical Device Manufacturers to Manufacture Ventilators
MG Motor India is in discussions with medical device manufacturers to produce ventilators at its plant in Halol to help address demand during the coronovirus (Kovid-19) epidemic.
The company said it is in discussions with GE and some other companies for ventilator production.
The company has also launched an affordable ventilator design challenge to serve patients affected by Kovid-19.
The best ventilator design concept, after evaluation by a team of medical experts, asked the company to pay Rs. A grant of 10 lakhs will be received.
Additionally, MG Motor will provide production support for the proposed ventilator prototype at its Halol facility for quick market deployment. The prototype is expected to be ready within a week.
If the prototype receives regulatory approval, the company plans to begin manufacturing its own ventilator. However, this may require more time as it involves regulatory approval.
The company is also planning to start a separate unit for ventilators in the future when demand increases.
MG Motor India President and Managing Director Rajeev Chaba said: "The Kovid-19 epidemic has given rise to a dire need for ventilators to take care of the increasing number of patients. There is an acute shortage of ventilators in the country and those available are large. Scales are expensive to adopt.
“As a responsible corporate citizen, MG Motor India is committed to fighting this epidemic. Enhancing medical innovation through a financial grant for the most viable prototype is the most effective channel for the community to do our bit. "
Meanwhile, the number of coronovirus cases in India has crossed 4,314, bringing the death toll to 118.
