Why MG Motor India is taking a different path in the Indian market
MG Motor, the latest Electric car brand to enter India, is trying to position itself as an innovation and technology leader to compete for a market dominated by Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, which together account for 70% of the cars sold.
MG Hector is the UK’s first iconic brand car, now owned by SAIC (formerly Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation), and is MG Motor India’s first connected SUV.
It provides remote vehicle control, voice assistant and other functions, and has been widely praised by customers. The car has been booked 33,000 times in the weeks since its launch. So far, it has delivered 10,000 units.
The company has announced its second product, the MG ZS EV, a latest electric car in India. The car is powered by a 44KwH battery and has a cruising range of 335 kilometres. It will be launched in December and will begin sales in January next year.
