5 Secrets About MG Hector That Nobody Will Tell You


MG Motor has declared the name of its SUV which will be its first product Car in India. The MG Hector will be a compact SUV offering a wide range of Hyundai Creta, KIA SP Concept, Jeep Compass and both types of SUVs in the compact and mid-size SUV segment.
The compact SUV segment has always been the most attractive segment in India and it is heating up with the launch of the new SUV. One such SUV that will enter the segment is the MG Hector with which the SAIC-owned British brand will enter our market. Just yesterday, MG Motor announced the name of its first SUV. MG Hector was named after Prince Hector of Troy after the Great British Biplane used by the British Airforce in the 1930s.


Here are the main five things we think about MG Motor's up and coming SUV.
Hector will be the first model in the MG motor's line-up in India. It will be manufactured locally at MG Motor's Halol facility in Gujarat and the company plans to launch it in India by mid-2019. The MG Hector is likely to exceed 70 percent of the localization and prices are expected to start at sector 16 lakh which will make it entitled to compete with a wide range of SUVs in our market.

It will be a compact SUV

The new MG Hector will be a five-seater compact SUV and given its specifications, it is likely to compete with a set rivals not only from the compact segment but also from the entry-level mid-size SUV segment. The segment leader Hyundai Creta is one of its major rivals, but it will battle it out with the likes of Nissan Kicks, Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500 and even Hyundai Tucson. Hector will also face competition from another newbie, the Kia SP Concept, which is set to enter the Indian market by Diwali 2019.

It will get both petrol and diesel engines

The MG Hector will be available in both petrol and diesel variants with BS6-ready powertrains. The petrol will be a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder, turbo-petrol unit, and a diesel 2-liter, four-cylinder motor. The power figures for both engines are still unknown, but given the same range as its parent company - SAIC's global range, we expect the petrol engine to make around 148 bhp, while the diesel is likely to churn out 177 bhp is. Having both powertrains on offer, the MG Hector will have an edge over the Tata Harrier, which was launched with a diesel motor only.

It will be well equipped

MG Hector is expected to be well equipped with some of the latest segment-leading features. In addition to features such as touchscreen power-adjustable seats, infotainment systems and cruise control that have now become standard in the segment, the company will also add some of the latest premium features such as electronic parking brakes that are only near the Jeep compass) with a panoramic sunroof (a Segment first) and 360 degree (Bird-Eye) camera views were seen only on Nissan kicks.

It will be a big footprint

The MG Hector is not going to be a small SUV. With a length of 4655 mm, a width of 1835 mm and a height of 1760 mm. The Hector will be larger in dimensions than the upcoming Tata Harrier which is longer and wider than all other SUVs in the segment.
